The Baekeland 2007 Symposium is organized by the Ghent University with support from the Belgian Polymer Group and will take place from 23 until 26 September 2007 in Ghent.
This symposium is organized to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the patent taken by Leo Baekeland describing the fabrication of phenol-formaldehyde resin, the very first commercial fully synthetic polymer. Baekeland was born in Ghent and studied at the Ghent University. He emigrated to the US where he made his invention of Bakelite.
As indicated by the sub-title of the Symposium: 'Thermosets, 100 years after Bakelite', the purpose of the meeting is to review the present trends and developments in all types of thermoset resins (not only phenolics), essentially from a R&D point of view.
